Remarks & Notes
Another train of empty coal trucks are being transported along the Calder valley through Mirfield for refilling from any one of hundreds of West or South Yorkshire collieries. The typically unkempt motive power is one of 730 former War Department 2-8-0's that served long after their intended life expectancy. Little of this scene remains today and virtually all of the collieries are long gone, victims of political dogma. The former textile mill in the left distance still stands, now converted into swish 'executive' apartments.
