Westbound Amtrak headed for Oakland crosses over the Carquinez Strait on the Benicia Bridge. The bridge was built by the Southern Pacific Railroad in the early 1930's to eliminate ferrying trains across the waters and is the largest double track bridge west of the Mississippi.
