The weekday freight from Malmesbury to the PPC (Pretoria Portland Cement) factory at De Hoek, near Morreesburg, is passing the farm “Rondomskrik” (light heartedly translated as “roundaboutfright”) through a sweeping S-curve, as it approaches the R45 road bridge. On this particular morning, the two class 35’s have 38 wagons in tow, including 14 loads of coal and a bright orange shunters caboose bringing up the rear.
