Remarks & Notes |
Our "Something is where it shouldn't be" department presents this photo. C&NW SW1200 1214 is swallowed up by swamp land vegetation as she switches cars on C&NW's isolated terminal trackage along the Calumet River's west bank along Torrence Avenue south of 113th St. in Chicago. In the background is the landmark suspension conveyor bridge carrying coke from Interlake Steel Company's coke making facility near South Deering Jct. to its blast furnaces on the east bank just south of 106th St. The C&NW here had several yards and industrial leads serving grain elevators along the river. |
