A piece of D&RGW history is being 'unmade' as salvaging crews scrap the former Rio Grande Sugarhouse Spur at Lake Street crossing in Salt Lake County. What became a two mile spur in the end was constructed originally as a branch from Roper Junction east all the way up Parley's Canyon to the silver mining boomtown of Park City. Most of the old right of way up Parley's was buried under Interstate 80 construction, although sections around Lamb's Canyon including a pair of spectacular loops are visible north of the freeway. This particular section of right of way (pictured) is now owned by Utah Transit Authority who hopes to build a streetcar shuttle service from Sugarhouse west to connect to TRAX light rail at Central Point station. All that is required to build is the funding to pay for it, which today is a rare commodity, of course.
