Remarks & Notes
Since it was first opened in 1891, the railway between Volksrust in Mpumalanga and Newcastle in kwaZulu-Natal, now crosses the Drakensberg (Dragon mountains) on its third alignment. A southbound container train from Johannesburg to Durban is exiting tunnel no.3 (1980m / 6496 ft) and crossing the Harte River bridge, 77 metres (252 ft) above the valley floor.
