Remarks & Notes
Billing itself as "The Shortest Railway in the World" (certainly the shortest railway in Los Angeles), Angels Flight is once again in operation. Opened in 1901, the railway was closed and dismantled in 1969 to make way for redevelopment in Los Angeles' Bunker Hill area. The diminutive funicular railway was finally reinstalled (twenty-seven years later and a half-block to the south) and reopened for service on February 24, 1996. Following a fatal accident on February 1, 2001, the railway was once again taken out of service while changes were made to the safety systems. On March 15, 2010, the railway reopened, with cars "Olivet" (on the left) and "Sinai" (on the right) continuing a long-time Los Angeles tradition transporting passengers on a sixty-second ride from Hill Street up and down the 350-foot slope between Hill and Olive Streets for a one-way fare of 25ยข.
