Southern Pacific GP38-2 4835 rolled out of EMD's La Grange, IL, factory in June 1980. Note the details: 88" nose with a brakewheel, SP light package, 4-hole jacking pads, air conditioning, Nathan P-3 air horn on a bracket, large snowplow, extended anticlimber, late (corrugated) radiator grilles, Q-fans, spare coupler knuckle on the fuel tank and extended blower duct (the raised portion of the walkway). This engine eventually became Union Pacific 598.
