It's a beautiful spring morning in the Utah high country...a perfect time to be outside enjoying the world we live in. Heber Valley Railroad's 'Lakeside Limited' has just made the 11 mile run south to Wallsburg, captured here heading north on the return to Heber City. 10,908 ft. Mt. Cascade shimmers in the the azure blue sky and reflects in the clear waters of Deer Creek Reservoir.
Deer Creek Dam and Reservoir are located on the Provo River about 16 miles northeast of Provo. The dam is a zoned earthfill structure 235 feet high with a crest length of 1,304 ft. The dam contains 2,810,000 cubic yards of material and forms a reservoir of 152,570 acre-ft. of capacity. Construction of the project began in May 1938 and was completed in 1941. The D&RGW trackage was relocated by the US Government to a hillside bench to avoid the new dam and the backwaters of this manmade lake. Dozens of happy fisherman were catching their limit along the steep shores of the reservoir on this particular day in the Wasatch.
