Remarks & Notes |
The LS&I tends to hibernate for the most part during the winter due to the closure of shipping on the upper great lakes. After the Soo Locks close on Jan. 15 until they reopen in late March the railroad tends to shut down except for the yard jobs at Eagle Mills. These jobs handle all rail ore out of Tilden Mine to Partridge for movement on CN and also they handle inbound general freight from Partridge or Eagle Mills to the mines. Add in the nearly constant cloud cover and the short amount of daylight in mid winter and getting snow shots of the LS&I becomes quite a chore. Spring is close on the calendar if not on the ground as 3007 and 3004 trudge through the snow heading toward Tilden with some general freight in mid March of 1999. |
