Remarks & Notes |
RDG #2124 prepares for asbestos abatement. Asbestos fibers woven into sheets were commonly placed under the painted sheet metal of the boiler (lagging) to keep the boiler insulated. This kept the heat in the boiler and made it much more efficient. Unfortunately, the fibers are microscopic and should they become airborne and breathed in over an extended period of time, the fibers are known to cause dire health problems, specifically cancer. Modern replacements are now available though foam blocks will be used for Steamtown's display engines. |
