Apache Canyon - Westbound The daily train from Antonito, Colorado to Chama, New Mexico emerges from behind a rock formation as it transits Apache Canyon about 3 miles east of Cumbres Pass. Just a mile ahead, is the famous "Tanglefoot Curve", on which the train will gain the final 150 ft. of elevation that it needs to cross the pass and start the downhill drift to Chama.
The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad are all that remains of the legendary Denver & Rio Grande Western narrow gauge system. Here you'll find some of my favorites from these two beautiful railways.
