UP's North Platte, NE to West Colton, CA manifest squeals around the northern tip of the Oquirrh Mountains just west of passing siding at Lake Point, Utah. This location is about 20 miles west of Salt Lake City along UP's historic Los Angeles & Salt Lake Route. In the distance in shadow is Antelope Island surrounded by the Great Salt Lake. The rails of the former Western Pacific mainline to Oakland are barely discernible in the sagebrush at lower left with super slab Interstate 80 running parallel along the southern shore of the lake.
