Remarks & Notes
Norfolk & Western's Train 202, affectionately known as "The Virginia Creeper", pulls into Damascus Station on a Saturday afternoon in February of 1956....nearly 3 hours late. The station agent and his men closely watch the arrival, looking for any issues on the equipment. If the train were running on schedule, they'd have headed home over an hour ago, but there is no service tomorrow and there's no one coming to relieve them. Although dinner will be late, they must stay and do their duty, assisting the few passengers in the coaches, shuffling sacks of mail on an off the baggage car, and offloading supplies for the local general store. Another 30 minutes, and their day will finally be done. For the train crew however, the grind will continue. They've got another hour's run to Abingdon before they can hand their aging Mollie over to the night shift. (This recreation courtesy of the Strasburg Railroad and Lerro Productions.)
