The crazy things railfans do to get a picture. I left my house at 4:30AM this morning and drove about 100 miles over a 9100’ pass to get to the town of Wellington, Utah just so I could take this shot. The ex D&RGW, now UP Green River sub runs along the Price River here and at the east switch of the Wash siding makes a right turn and enters Wellington Canyon. Wellington Canyon is short and entirely unremarkable; not really a canyon at all, but just a gap through low hills cut by the river. Amtrak #6 was about 25 minutes late getting out of the stop at Helper about 15 miles or so west of here, so the sun had a few extra minutes to fully illuminate the scene before it was train time. The impressive Book Cliffs rise in the background.
