Remarks & Notes

Christmas vacation from high school in 1955 included a visit to Illinois Central's Markham yard on Chicago's south side. We headed for the engine terminal where we found a good number of live steam locomotives. ICRR 4-8-2 2554 was at the head of the line at the ash pit waiting to have her fire cleaned before she was moved into the roundhouse to wait for her next trip south.
