Remarks & Notes
General Electric's ES44C4 diesels, with their unique A-1-A trucks, are (so far) unique the the BNSF Railway. A pair of them, 6646 from the second order, and 6602 from the first, are on the head end of unit coil steel train U-PITKAI1-05A (Pittsburg, California to Kaiser [Fontana], California) as it descends Cajon Pass in southern California on November 6, 2010. The second order of the ES44C4s have noticeably heavier handrail stanchions (they almost appear solid in this image) than the earlier order, a trait shared with later ES44DCs as well. (The consist for this train is 6646, 6602 and 7440 up front, with 4081 and 5010 as the DPUs on the rear.)
