Elsdon Yard, on Chicago's southwest side, had a roundhouse and service facilities for Grand Trunk Western steam power until the end of the steam era. We visited the yard and found a good number of live locomotives at the roundhouse and working the yard. Grand Trunk Western 6333, Class U-3-b, was built in 1942 by ALCO. After dropping her train in the yard, the first stop is at the ash pit where she is getting her fire cleaned. Her replacements are lurking in the background.
