Made famous by photographers like Phil Hastings and Ron Nixon, Marshall Canyon, south of Spokane, Wash., is still a location that makes for a good photo. Such is the case on the afternoon of January 22, 2011, as a BNSF manifest freight heads through the canyon on the Highline. At one time the Northern Pacific, Spokane, Portland & Seattle and Union Pacific all ran through here, but today it's just BNSF and UP.
