In my mind, in the diesel locomotive world at least, the Alco RSD15 pretty much fit the definition of a "beast." It certainly wasn't beautiful and when it got down to business it let everyone within earshot and eyesight know about it. LS&I RSD15 No. 2401 lays over during the night on the ready tracks at the LS&I shops at Eagle Mills, MI on May 26, 1982. Soon the battered unit would receive an overhaul and a coat of bright red paint. That would make No. 2401 as beautiful as it could be.
