In a scene that was quite common in the steam era, C&NW E2 4-6-2 2901 had her fire cleaned after taking coal and water. Interestingly, this was the E2 class locomotive and was one of the four E2 locomotives that inaugurated "400" service on the C&NW between the Twin Cities and Chicago. She was built as a coal burner, converted to oil for "400" service, and re-converted to coal for the remainder of her life. This image was taken shortly before May 22, 1956, the last day for C&NW steam in Chicago.
