Autumn is in the air as the days are growing shorter, the shadows are growing longer, and the first tinges of color have struck the trees. This westbound intermodal train is rolling along the Flathead River through John Stevens Canyon, named for the surveyor and engineer who built the Great Northern. Stevens' next project was building the Panama Canal.
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
