Elsdon Yard, on Chicago's southwest side, had a roundhouse and service facilities for Grand Trunk Western steam power until the end of the steam era. We visited the yard and found a good number of live locomotives at the roundhouse and working the yard. Grand Trunk Western 6332, Class U-3-b, was built in 1942 by ALCO. GTW 6332 is shown at the ash pit adjacent to the roundhouse. After she has her fire cleaned she will be coaled, her tank filled with water, and will be ready for her next call to service.
