Burlington K-2 class 4-6-0 637 was built by Rogers Locomotive & Machine Works in November, 1892 as Burlington & Missouri River 309. It has 64 inch drivers, operates at 180 lbs of boiler pressure, and can exert 20,700 lbs of tractive effort.
In 1949 this locomotive was refitted with a diamond stack for exhibition at the Railroad Fair Pageant in Chicago. It was retained for exhibition purposes until given to the City of Aurora for display. It was eventually donated to the Illinois Railway Museum. This postcard size image of CB&Q 637 was given to fans on one of the trips I rode in the 1950s, and appears to have been taken at the Aurora, Illinois engine terminal. Here's a link to how she looked in 1956: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=352783
An attempt to put the best picture of engines that represent each of America's railroads. When a better picture of an engine/type is found, it will be added.
