The tri-weekly train passes through Hesston going the slowest speed you may ever see on welded rail. The Union Pacific upgraded this branch after they bought Missouri Pacific to haul coal trains. Once the Central Kansas Railway operated it, the local was down to a few cars a day. The K&O has brought traffic back and now has 50 cars on a regular basis. Most of it is liquid petroleum which warrants the 10 mph speed limit through town. Fine with me. |
