Remarks & Notes
The Peninsular Railfans Club promoted a trip on the Atlantic Coast Line on May 1, 1949. The trip was headed by ACL 4-6-2 427, one of 45 P-3 Class locomotives built in 1914 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. She had 69" drivers, 22 x 28 inch cylinders, boiler pressure of 200 lbs, and produced 33,389 lbs of tractive effort. The round trip originated in Tampa and ran east to Lakeland; then headed north to Rainbow Springs. A stop at the Lakeland roundhouse and terminal was included and numerous photos were exposed at various stops along the way. This George Pettengill image from my collection was taken as the railfan special waited in a siding to allow another ACL passenger train to pass.
