Hurricane Irene resulted in Amtrak's 40th Anniversary Special to make a rare detour over the NYSW route from Syracuse to Binghamton, NY on its way to the 2011 Steamtown Railfest in Scranton, PA; the next stop on its national tour.
A first for Amtrak on this route?
The train was led by the 145, 822 and 406 with the Anniversary consist in tow, followed by the Pacific Cape and Beech Grove office cars.
