Remarks & Notes
With most of their units out working the day's two trains, the Raritan River Railroad's shops area held a single SW900 on the morning of June 15, 1979. Built in 1954, the old switcher looked pretty good that morning (as did the entire fleet of SW900s). A joint subsidiary of the Penn Central and the Central RR of NJ, the Raritan River was a very profitable operation and it fought being included in Conrail (its sole parent at this point) for four years. A year after I took this shot, Conrail prevailed and the RRRR was no more.
