D&RGW 487 West drifts downgrade at Dalton, NM with 13 cars and a caboose bound for Chama Yard with a heavy cut of loaded livestock on the head end. The train crews primary concern now is controlling the train's decent, which in places reaches four percent, without overheating the brake shoes and having a stray spark start a right of way fire. Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railway hosted a Pete Lerro Productions photo charter from Chama, NM to Osier, CO and return and pushed the "wayback machine" some 50 years to create this beautiful moment seen above.
