Osier Arrival. With one of her Brakemen riding the catwalk, a D&RGW freight arrives at the remote station in Osier, Colorado. Prominent in the consist today is a string of distinctive, black stock cars that will be used to bring local ranchers' cattle to market. The stock pens used to stage and load those cattle can be seen at the left side of the photo. Osier was also the home of a D&RGW Section Crew and the old Section House can be seen just to the left of the water tank. The Osier Depot itself is just behind the second car in the consist. Today, Osier is more than just the historic buildings you see here. To the left and out of view in this photo is a large cafeteria, which is used by the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad (C&TS) to provide lunch to the passengers on its daily trains between Chama, NM and Antonito, CO. The re-creation seen here was made possible by the C&TS and Lerro Productions.
The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad are all that remains of the legendary Denver & Rio Grande Western narrow gauge system. Here you'll find some of my favorites from these two beautiful railways.
