Remarks & Notes |
UP 5855 strains against grade and curvature as another coal train enters the Moffat Tunnel. The 2% wooded Winter Park Hill is the ruling grade for coal trains leaving the mines of the Colorado Plateau. The train could be heard for at least 30 minutes and puts on quite a show! The pipe in the foreground is the Moffat water tunnel pipe that brings west slope water to the thirsty Front Range.
