Remarks & Notes
Remnants of Icelandic Railroads: Iceland isn't known for having railroads due to its geographical characteristics. However, railroads on a very small scale did exist in the Reykjavík area. Minør, pictured here, and its sister locomotive Pioneer, were built in Germany in 1892 and brought to Iceland in 1913. These locomotives worked hauling gravel and rock from Öskjuhlíð and Skólavörðuholt into Reykjavík until 1928. Minør is preserved as a static display, but the status of Pioneer is unknown. The U.S. Coast Guard were in Reykjavik this particular day with a mast ship, seen in the background.
