The Haut-Bugey line is part of the new TGV connection between Geneva and Paris, which was put into service in December 2010 and cut the travel time by 20 minutes. The line was originally opened in 1877 and used for local trains until 2006, when it was closed and completely rebuilt to become part of the TGV network. Its most impressive feature is the Cize-Bolozon viaduct, which was built in 1875, destroyed in World War 2, reopened 1950, and now again restored.
