149 years ago this month one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War was fought at this location, in large part to see who would control the railroad seen in this picture, then known as the Nashville and Chattanooga Railroad. After four days of bitter winter fighting, Gen. Rosecrans and his Union army gained the upper hand and built a major supply depot just a mile down track.
Not only known as Music City, USA, Nashville served as a major junction for the Louisville and Nashville, Tennessee Central, and Nashville, Chattanooga, and St. Louis as well as through service for a host of other railroads.
