Changing of the guard.. With a full moon in the sky under partly cloudy skies, CSX's newest signal suspension project is less than 48 hours from taking place. The CSX signal at C.P. "Tuckahoe" will soon be activated, with this well established C&O location just two days from dying. The C&O cantilever (out of the frame, to my back) will be removed from service and ultimately scrapped by December 14th. In this particular scene, eastbound Ronceverte based pusher CSX H248 silhouettes the new signal, while nearly completing the shove of 150 cars and two GE's over Alleghany Summit. The head end of the train is over a half a mile into Virginia, while the helper is still in West Virginia. The pusher will soon cut off on the fly and return west, downhill for Ronceverte.
This is dedicated (with permission) to the skilled and gifted photographer - Chase Gunnoe - who regularly posts and is on staff with RP. I believe he deserves a gallery showcasing his remarkable photos. This is for you Chase! (More great photos to come!)
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
