Remarks & Notes
A new generation of power leads Southern Pacific's Denver to Salt Lake City manifest at Riverton, Utah. SP 225 is a GE AC4400CW, blt. June 1995 while the SP 502 is an MK5000C, blt. August 1994. The 225 continues to serve today on the UP as the 6271 while the 502 is now the Utah Railway 5002, purchased in June 2001. By August of 2003, the 5002 lost its Caterpillar diesel engine, replaced by an EMD prime mover, generator and long hood.
