Good Friday indeed! One of Union Pacific's two SD70Ms painted to serve on the Olympic Torch Relay train for the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, was found sitting all by itself at the northern end of UP's Dolores Yard in Carson, California, on April 6th, 2012. Purchased from EMD as UP 4691 (b/n 996168-156), this August 2001-built engine and sister 4690 were renumbered 2001 and 2002, and painted by Wisconsin & Southern's shop in Horicon, Wisconsin, is this attractive scheme for service ferrying the Olympic Torch around the country. Rumors have circulated lately these these two engines are slated to get renumbered and repainted to standard UP colors, so finding this ten years after the Olympics was nice.
