RRL Grindrod has the contract to haul reef for Harmony Gold from Brand siding in Welkom, to the Nyala and Tshepong mines at Friedesheim and Odendaalsrus respectively, which involves operating over Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) trackage. With storm clouds gathering overhead, RRL's ex- SAR/Spoornet/TFR class 91's 91-01 and 91-03 sit in the Welkom station yard, alongside a TFR class 35-200 in Spoornet blue livery. Ironically, the 35 is on hire to RRL, but operating mostly over home rails.
