Remarks & Notes |
By 1981-82 the CNW was looking to get rid of the Baldwin/EMD 4 and 6 axle hybrids and moved the smaller Alco's that had called Huron, SD home to Green Bay-Escanaba. This was to put all the Alco's under the care of the North Green Bay Shop and the Escanaba Roundhouse that had become quite the experts on Alco's after nearly a decade of dealing with the C628 fleet assigned to ore service. Nothing against Huron which had also been dealing with Alco power seemingly forever, but it did standardize parts inventories in Green Bay. The smaller Alco's from Huron worked the Fox River Valley and North Green Bay Yard. They also worked Escanaba on the dumper job normally teamed up with a C628, and at least a couple were assigned to the Iron Mountain area. Here is 4255 sunning itself at Escanaba Roundhouse on a July afternoon in 1984. |
