Each year in March, pink and white Cosmos flowers are in full bloom all over the South African Highveld, signalling the end of a long, hot summer. A very grubby 40-year old Class 6E leads a Class 6E1 on a short eastbound freight at Dryden. The differences between the bogies of the 6E and 6E1 are clearly visible in this shot, taken at a favourite location for photographing trains with flowering Cosmos alongside the tracks. Alas, with lower rainfall this year, the blooms were not as spectacular as in previous years (see photo ID 317997).
