On the west end of Minnesota's Iron Range, Essar Steel Minnesota is bringing a new era of mining to Minnesota’s mighty Iron Range by building a state of the art open pit mining, concentrating and pelletizing operation that will be capable of producing 7.0 million tons per year of any type of pellet the market demands. And with 1.77 billion tons of proven and probable resources to mine, they should be around for years to come. This connection from new 136 lb. rail to the existing 115 rail of the former DM&IR/ Missabe's Coleraine Branch is where the product will enter the mainline and begin the trip to markets worldwide.
