On a wet June 4, 2012, a Norfolk Southern 21st Century Steam ferry move departs Norfolk Southern's Inman Yard in Atlanta, GA, after running Employee Appreciation trips in Atlanta over the weekend. Here the train can be seen running through Howell Wye, beginning its two-day trip to Spencer, NC, where it will run more appreciation trips the next weekend. The train, running as NS 958 would be the first steam running on the NS Piedmont Division since N&W J-Class 611 made the trip on November 13, 1994, flying black flags on the second-to-last day of its operation and the operation of the first Norfolk Southern Steam Program. The 1906 American Locomotive Company 2-8-0 was rebuilt by the Tennessee Valley Railway Museum last fall, giving it 15 more years of life. (Peter Lewis photo).
