Remarks & Notes
With 630 laid up back in Roanoke, NS heritage unit 1065--lettered for the Savannah & Atlanta--provides the horsepower for a Roanoke-Bristol ferry move and one-way excursion. The train is westbound (running very near the schedule of the old Tennessean) at the west end of the siding at Clark (now known for the community's name of Gunton Park). The train has just crested the climb from Pulaski, which follows Indian Grave Creek. The only tunnel on the line is a few miles back. This route was laid out and built before the Civil War. Notice the old N&W CPLs (which used to be just Position Light signals until the late '50s) still in service at this location.
