Remarks & Notes
Alicia, PA 7/11/12 - The day is almost over for the work of Cumberland Mine Railroad's SD-38-2 CMYX 22. Paired with sister unit CMYX 1 which is tied onto the end of this 38 car coal train, the two engines provide push-pull service via remote control to the 18 mile round trip between the Cumberland Mine at Kirby, PA and a barge transloading facility at Alicia, PA. The trains run around the clock, averaging up to 6 turns per day. But on this hazy summer evening, a conveyor belt at the mine's tipple has failed, rendering it useless to continue running turns for the next 24 hours. Once this train is unloaded in the dumping shed it is about to enter, the one man crew will be relieved of duty until operations resume the following midnight.

A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)

Not just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.

Pictures of things often unseen in the world of railroading. Interesting equipment, operations, and people that help the railroad go around.
