On a beautiful late summer day, the Apache Railway’s freight approaches the giant paper mill at Snowflake, Arizona. On the point is former L&N Alco C420 No. 81, which I believe was the first locomotive painted in the new green and white paint scheme, followed by three more Alcos in old blue and silver paint. Trailing are RS36s Nos. 800 and 900 delivered to Apache Railway new in 1962, followed by a former N&W C420 No. 84. The always image-conscious Apache didn’t operate very long with the two color schemes mixed together.
