Going from single to double main at Mt. Carbon, a westbound long term detour baretable train, CSX Q139 charges under the disconnected C&O absolute at CP 'Mt. Carbon'. The new signals have had their heads turned, and activated, signs that the first New River Subdivision signal suspension project is underway. Disconnected from power, and less than 48 hours from having her signal heads removed, and cantilever scrapped, another piece of the C&O history dies.. The cantilever at Mt. Carbon served trains at this fairly busy interlocking for nearly 35 years, guiding each and every eastbound train through the Chessie, and early CSX eras.
This is dedicated (with permission) to the skilled and gifted photographer - Chase Gunnoe - who regularly posts and is on staff with RP. I believe he deserves a gallery showcasing his remarkable photos. This is for you Chase! (More great photos to come!)
