Essex, Montana: There are railroad towns and then there is Essex. Located on the former Great Northern Railway's Marias Pass line, the small community was and still is a critical helper station on the mountain. It's also home to the iconic Izaak Walton Inn, a well known spot to western railroad photographers. On Sunday, Sept. 9, BNSF O-WHITOP1-09A deadheads east from Whitefish to Topeka, Kansas.
