'Three 3's'. CFCL Australia's Cs3 (originally Victorian Rlys C503 which entered service in July 1977), still displaying its previous owners livery, Silverton Rail, leads 603 (in its old now faded Australian National Rail livery) and 442s3, also in Silverton Rail colours, races through Spring Hill at sunset on its way to the western city of Dubbo.
The C Class locomotives, numbering only ten units in the class, were manufactured in Sth Australia by Clyde Engineering, now EDI Rail, and are fitted with safety cabs, also known as the ‘Canadian comfort cab’ or ‘wide cab’. They were the first turbocharged locomotives delivered to the Victorian Railways and the last class delivered the in the VR blue and gold livery.
