In 1993, the Ontario Northland expanded its operations when it took over a portion of the Canadian National’s former Canadian Northern main line from Cochrane west to Hearst and Calstock, Ontario. Needless to say, the line was in dire need of some TLC. On September 21, 1993, a ONR work extra west that is distributing new ties on the line is slowing for a stop to flip the east switch at Opasatika. The train is heading into the siding to let a westbound freight around them, and the freight is visible through the truss bridge over the Opasatika River just behind the work extra. Yes, believe it or not, there is a siding to the south of the main in this photo!
