Delaplane, VA, October 1987 - Though the Southern Railway had been a part of the newly formed Norfolk Southern for about five years at this point, this westbound Front Royal local with a B-23-7 and a trio of EMDs was "all Southern" as it passed through the tiny Virginia village under pouring rain. Finding a train on this line was a rarity in those days, before the NS upgraded the line to through freight status as a part of their new intermodal thoroughfare between the Southern's Atlanta to Washington mainline and the Norfolk & Western's Roanoke to Hagerstown line. Today, this route is known as the "B-Line", and sees several manifest and intermodal trains per day.
